The manufacturing process of automotive forging parts usually includes mold design, material preparation, forging, heat treatment, and surface treatment. The following is a detailed introduction to the manufacturing process of automotive forging parts based on a real production case.
Firstly, it is mold design. According to the requirements of automotive forging parts, we need to design corresponding hammer heads and forging molds. This process involves the calculation of forging force, the determination of finished product size, the design of shape, etc., which require the use of CAD software to complete.
Secondly, it is material preparation. The commonly used materials for automotive forging parts are metal alloys and steel. These materials need to be melted, cast, and rolled to get billets suitable for forging. In this case, we use 45# steel as the forging material.
Then comes forging. The main process of forging is to change the internal structure of the metal billet under the action of high temperature and huge impact force, so as to obtain the required shape and performance. According to different forging methods, it can be divided into free forging, die forging, and precision forging. In this case, we adopted die forging. First, preheat the cut billet to the appropriate temperature (in this case, 950℃), put it into the preheated forging mold, and then forge it according to the required shape. After forging, the forging presents ideal size and shape.
Next is heat treatment. Heat treatment is an essential process in the forging part manufacturing process. It changes the internal structure of the metal to further improve or adjust its properties. The most commonly used method is quenching and tempering, which can make the forging achieve the required hardness and toughness. In this case, we carried out tempering treatment on the forging. First, heat the forging to 550℃, then put it into the welding furnace for a period of time, and then cool it to complete the treatment.
Finally, it is surface treatment. The surface of automotive forging parts often needs polishing, painting, or chrome plating to beautify appearance and improve service life. In this case, we carried out sandblasting, precision polishing treatment, and rust prevention treatment on the forging.
These are the main process of automotive forging part manufacturing. With a perfect process and advanced processing equipment, we can produce high-quality automotive forging parts to meet market demand.
