Switzerland’s forging factories have always been committed to improving the quality of forged parts. The following will illustrate this from two aspects: data analysis and case studies.
I. Data analysis
- Material selection: In 2019, German material manufacturer VDM Metals provided a Swiss aerospace forging company with ultra-high-temperature nickel-based alloys which have excellent high-temperature and creep resistance, greatly improving the quality of the forgings.
- Forging process: According to data provided by Swedish research institution RISE, the institution optimized the forging process of a high-temperature titanium alloy, improving the quality index of the forgings significantly through detailed temperature and strain control.
- Equipment maintenance: A report provided by an EU commercial commissioner shows that a large hydraulic forging machine in a Swiss forging company has a maintenance rate of 100%, ensuring the stability and reliability of the produced forgings.
II. Case study
- Encourage technological innovation: Swiss forging company PMB Precision Motion independently developed and produced a complex precision forging according to customer needs, which has a quality standard of up to 800 mm2. This is because PMB adopted cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printing and CNC machine tools during research and development, allowing them to achieve this level of quality.
- Strengthen all-round inspection: Swiss aviation manufacturing company sells aviation parts worldwide. In this process, all of its products undergo comprehensive quality inspections, especially with regard to the detection of large forging defects and the measurement of equipment deviations, for which the company is a leader in the industry.
The aforementioned data and case studies show that material selection, forging process, equipment maintenance, and all-round inspection are all indispensable when it comes to improving the quality of forgings within Swiss forging companies. Additionally, encouraging technological innovation and strengthening all-round inspection are also important means of improving the quality of forgings.
